Well today brought severe weather..wind, hail and rain. Campground sent out warning via text and email to take shelter. We brought in the slides and the satellite down. Really scary watching the hail pelt the car and motorhome. Fortunately no damage..amazing.

A nice day so we decided to drive into Wyoming to visit what was Sundance AFS on Warren Peak. It closed in 1968 after 6 years in operation. The Air Force Station was powered by a portable nuclear power plant and has to be monitored for 75 years after closing. If interested in more info, visit John's site fortwiki.com

After touring the AFS site we drove to Devil's tower, America's First National Monument and an ideal location for rock climbing. There is also 1.3 mile Tower Trail from the visitor parking lot as well as 7 miles of walking paths. Some 5,000 climbers come from all over the world to climb on the massive columns with over 220 climbing routes used.

In the park brochure is a story of the origin of the tower as told by the Kiowa people. Some think it was he core of an ancient volcano or an igneous intrusion. I think it looks like a huge tree stump that is petrified.
Upon returning home, Denise and Phil stopped by for a visit. Their site is on the SW part of the campground and we are on the East side. Makes for a nice walk. After they left, we went to Bunky's barbeque for take out. They were closing so only choice was a pulled pork sandwich with slaw and baked beans for $12. Our portions were huge and we had enough for dinner on Saturday.
Lesson learned today..when we got gas in the car at the station at the exit 17, it was advertised $1.79. Since we always get regular found out that is for Regular Supreme and Regular gas is $2.259 has something to do with octane. Have only seen this at this location.

Another rain and wind storm this afternoon. iHome was shaking. Followed same procedures as before. Managed to get a photo although not very good of a double rainbow. Could not capture the colors. Wind continued well into the night so we left slides in and satellite down.
