Arrival Spearfish, SD

01 June 2020

Our drive today from Hardin, MT took us on IH 90 to Spearfish,SD and our home for the month, Elkhorn Ridge RV Resort recommended by friends, Denise and Phil who will be here for two months. Must say we are very impressed with the park and location surrounded by lush green hills and landscape. Feel the monthly rate of $1350 or $45/day is a value considering all the park amenities. Suggest you check out their website www.elkhornridgeresort.com. They also have a golf course, 3 laundries, swimming pool, basketball and tennis court, large dog area, cabins, beautiful sculptures in the park, very nice gift shop and just the serenity is a plus as well. In a way it is a blessing that we could not get into Ellsworth AFB due to virus shutdown. We are so impressed that we are talking about returning next summer for maybe two months.

The resort sits on the Frawley Ranch which consists of almost 5,000 acres acquired by Henry Frawley in the late 1800's and early 1900's. 1,000 acres of the ranch have been set aside commercial and residential development with the remainder left for historic preservation, walking and biking trails and wildlife habitat. It is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. Tours of the ranch Buffalo Herd can be scheduled.

Today we had Blackhills Mobile  come out and wash the iHome. They did a great job especially getting all the nasty bugs off the front. Their price was reasonable at $4/ft for wash and wax. We will probably have them out again before we depart.

Today we drove to Ellsworth AFB to have our prescriptions refilled, go to the commissary, John got a much needed haircut and we stopped by the South Dakota Air and Space Museum just outside the Main gate. It will take a week to get our prescriptions that have to be transferred from Nellis AFB. We were glad to be able to get on base in spite of campground being closed. We were unable to get our 2nd shingles shot and advised to go to Walgreen's or Walmart.
