First Week in Tucson

It was only a 90 mile drive to Davis Monthan AFB and our home until the 10th January 2021.

Davis Monthan FamCamp #7

Since they don't take reservations we were lucky not to have to go into dry camp and got a nice spot #7 overlooking the mountains. This is our 7th visit since 2009 and now that Darin and Kerry are living in Tucson, we will return every year as long as we are RV'ing. We also have friends,Connie and Ken, that we met in September of 2010 at Wright Patterson AFB. We visited them in Wichita in June of 2015 and of course here as they come every year.

Driving into Tucson on IH 10 from the East, the litter on both sides of highway is unbelievable. Also the homeless camps. How can a city or town allow this to happen?  It seems no one cares or wants to do anything about it. I say get the politicians out there, give them a rake, a shovel and garbage bags and clean it up. Not only here,but in all the litter infested cities and towns. 

One of the cleanest states we have traveled is South Dakota. Never see litter on the roads. Think it is a matter of pride and caring. 

Met Darin at the visitor center so he could get a base pass while we are here. Makes his visits easier as now we don't have to escort him on the base. 

22 December

Darin took us to lunch at BJ's brew pub and afterwards we went to ACE Hardware on 22nd St. The store is almost a block long and if you can't find item here, then you are out of luck. Darin found 2 wreaths. And I got 2 bags of Dot's pretzels.

23rd December

Darin picked us up to attend a Christmas gathering at their home. We don't drive at night. As usual their home was decorated for Christmas to perfection. Unfortunately, failed to take photos. They started a trend in the neighborhood of decorating mailboxes for the holidays and some are quite interesting. Darin has searched all over Tucson for a propane fire pit and none to be found.The gathering was mostly Kerry's family, the food spread was abundant and good conversation with all.

25 December

 Connie and Ken invited us over for a potluck with two other couples that also come here every year.

 I took red potatoes and fruit salad. Connie made a delicious cranberry sauce that I must get recipe.

 Ham, turkey, dressing, green bean casserole and desserts completed the menu. We had some laughs, shared experiences of RV'ing and just enjoyed the afternoon. Thanks again for inviting us. Sorry I didn't take any pictures.
