This afternoon we drove to Snow Canyon SP and then to the Mountain Meadow Massacre memorial and site. Both are off hwy 18 about 30 miles from campground.
Snow Canyon affords some beautiful views of the Red Rocks, lava flows and sandstone cliffs encompassing some 7,400 acres in the Red Cliffs Desert Reserve that encompasses over 62,000 acres. The many activities include hiking trails, rock climbing, camping, biking and equestrian trails. This was not the best weather day as it was hazy so we may return in better sunshine before we depart.
Snow Canyon has a long history of human use from 200 A.D. with the Anasazi, Paiute A.D. 1200 to mid 1800's and then the Momon's in the 1850's. Several movies have been filmed here including Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Electric Horseman and Jeremiah Johnson.
One of our stops was to view some very brave rock climbers on the cliffs. Talked to the wife, Meagan, of one of the climbers. Got some photos, but not as zoomed as would have liked. Anyway offered to send her a few. Thanks Meagan for taking time to talk with me.
