Taking advantage of the sunny day, we booked the 1015AM ferry from Coupeville to Port Townsend for our drive to Hurricane Ridge in the Olympic NP south of Port Angeles. The ferry ride is only 30 minutes and there is a very nice cafe at the landing so we got a breakfast sandwich and coffee to go before boarding the ferry.
On the way we made a brief stop at Fort Worden as John wanted to see if the museum had some new exhibits. Grazing in the parade ground and by some homes was able to get a couple of deer photos.
Our drive took us via the towns of Sequim and Port Angeles. We stopped at the park visitor center in Port Angeles and had our picnic lunch before driving the 17 miles up to the Ridge. There were several displays in the NP Visitor Center.
One interesting one was of a 650 year old Douglas Fir Slab planted in 1349. If you were to plant a seedling today to reach this size would be in the 27th century.
It is well worth the drive for the views.
We were booked for the 815PM ferry return, but were able to go standby on the 515PM. The Washington Ferry staff is very accommodating and friendly and the ferry system is most efficient. RT fare was around $28.00. If taking any of the ferries, strongly recommend reservations which you can do on-line.
