After touring the 3 forts, we walked around the quaint town of Natchitoches (Nack-a-Tish) on Cane Lake.

This town is the oldest community in Louisiana founded in in 1714 by Louis Juchereau de St. Denis. The town reflects a European style through its architecture, heritage and lifestyle.The 33 block features many historic homes and buildings with great dining and shopping. It is home to Northwestern State University situated on a sprawling and beautiful campus.

I am sorry we did not have more time to explore the area as there is so much history. Many of the old homes are now B & B's.
