We sure hated to leave NS Mayport Pelican Roost Campground.

We are driving up IH95 to Sumter SC and our campground at Shaw AFB for 3 nights. This is our first stay here.

Shaw AFB is the oldest AF base. Was first an Air Field in 1941 and the AF Base was established in 1947. It is also one of the largest military bases in the US. It is under the jurisdiction of the AF Central Combat Command and the host unit is the AF 20th Fighter Wing flying F-16 CJ Fighting Falcons.
In 2005 Base Realignment and Closure relocated the Third US Army from Fort Gillem and Fort McPherson to Shaw which are now closed.
The campground is small, but very quiet and nice with full hookups. It is located next to the athletic fields with a nice walking/running path and stops for heart health workouts such as arm lifts, sit-ups and strength training. We would definitely return.
While we are here, John wants to visit Fort Ninety Six and Fort Watson within 100 miles.
