Arrival Netarts Bay RV and Tour of Tillamook Air Museum

Happy Birthday, my dear. Driving to our next park not a way to spend your birthday, but at least it is a short 60 mile drive up 101N.

We will be staying at Netarts Bay Garden RV until the 5 July. It is west about 8 miles of Tillamook on the Bay. It is a very nice, well maintained park next to Netarts Bay.The area we are in #79 does not have Bay view, but that is ok as it is just a short walk. The following morning as I was updating my blog, a deer was just steps away and posed for photo. On walk to office saw Harbor Seals across the bay..too far away for good photo . Closest beach is Cape Lookout around 5 miles or less. Shopping is in Tillamook.

John still suffering from Sciatica..very painfull. Encourage him to do exercises doctor suggested. I also put ice packs on most painful area several times a day.Sure wish hin to get better soon.

Today we visited the Tillamook Air Museum. This is definitely worth a visit if in area.The Museum purpose is to preserve,educate and honor history of NAS Tillamook in WW II. There is a large collection of aircraft.The Museum is located in Hangar B, the largest clear-span wooden structure in the World. Hangar A was destroyed by fire in 1992. Airships were also stationed here.

There is an exhibit of the USAF Mt Hebo Statiom. We visited in 2017.

There is an exhibit of the SB2C Helldiver Crash, a mystery that went unsolved for over 5 decades. In 1948 the plane took off from NAS Tillamook bound for San Diego. Soon after a group of loggers found the  crash site after seeing the plane circling under a low overcast. The area was searched soon after. During the 1950's during logging pieces were found and in 2010 more debris was found including wing, tail section and landing gear.After completion of the JPAC excavations, all wreckage was taken to the Museum.

 The Hall of WW II built by Steven Schramm over 30 years recreates battles and displays to teach the history of the War and honor all those who served. There is an exhibit on Mt Hebo USAF station. We met our good friends, Rose Mary and Chuck at the Pelican Brewing Pub in Pacific City..20 miles south on the Loop scenic way. They drove up from their timeshare in Depoe Bay. Thanks for driving up. We will see you in LV when we return in Sept and Oct.
