We left Hawthorne Whiskey Flats RV for Fallon NAS NV until 10 May. This is our 2nd visit since March of 2014. The campground is small 25 sites FHU $42/day. The laundry has the most high tech commercial size machines and free I have seen in our 14 years of travel. Too bad more campgrounds cannot have these type machines. Fallon NAS is the Navy's premiere air-to-ground training facility. It is home to the Naval Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN) as well as the Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center. Naval Seal Training also takes place here.
On our 2014 visited Fort Churchill, Virginia City and Pyramid Lake. If in the area visit these places. You can also refer to my blog March 2014 for info.
The weather has been rainy and windy for most of our stay.
10 May
Today we departed for Wild Goose Meadows in Lakeview,OR..300 miles via hwy 50,IH 80 to 395 N..a long drive. Main purpose for staying here was to visit Fort Bidwell,CA just over OR state line.

Fort Bidwell (1865-1893) was established to protect the immigrant travel routes into Idaho and Oregon.
The garrison participated in the Snake and Modoc wars. The post was abandoned in 1893. The post buildings were used as an Indian school and headquarters for the Indian reservation. The barracks buildings were torn down in the 1930's when the school closed.

We had lunch in the Fort Bidwell Hotel. The hotel and restaurant are undergoing renovations. Food was good and the menu has lots of choices. John had blue cheese burger with onion rings and I the tuna melt with fried mushrooms.
14 May
Short drive to our next destination..Water Wheel on hwy 97 in Chiloquin,OR. Very nice, small park on the Williamson River. We will be here until 18 May.

Wish I had been aware of how close it is to Hope's..100 miles. We ordered some things for the RV and hoping it gets there before we depart. Had I known this sooner, we could have ordered when we were at Fallon.
Our reason for stopping here was to visit Kingsley Field Air National Guard Base in Klamath Falls and the AF Radar Station in Keno which is now an FAA site.

We then drove to Tule Lake,CA just over state line to visit site of Tule Lake Japanese Relocation Center during WWII. Only a few buildings remain and signage. Closed for tours until 1 June.
Also, before departure we drove over to Crater Lake..only south entrance open due to snowfall. We have been here several times over the years. Had lunch in the hotel which affords views of the Lake.
18 May
Departed today for Rice Hill RV park at exit 148 on IH 5 and 200 mile drive. Very nice park, well maintained and friendly staff. We will be here for week before departing to Newport,OR.

21 May
Our packages arrived at Hope's so we drove the 400 rt mile trip. She had lunch for us..a delicious quiche.
Got back around 500PM. Drive on 126 to Hwy 20 and Santiam Pass was scenic especially along the Mackenzie River. A fire set by arsonist several years ago destroyed massive acres of forests on both sides of road and many homes.
23 May
Revisited Fort Umpqua in Elkton,OR..short drive from campground. Our last visit was in 2009 and surprised to see how much work has been done thanks to the many volunteers. More work to be done in future.
Fort Umpqua (1) 1836-1854 was established by the Hudson's Bay Company as a regional center for the fur trade and many COOS,Lower Umpqua and Suislaw Native Americans. A fire destroyed the fort in 1851 and finally closed in 1854 as the trade diminished.
