Big Spring and Elephant Rocks,MO

 20 July 2021

My two interests on our 300 miles touring trip today was Big Spring and Elephant Rocks SP.

Big Spring, one of several Springs in Missouri, is in the town of said name off Hwy 60 east and south on Hwy 103 67 miles from West Plains.

This is America's biggest spring and the largest in Missouri. It has an average daily flow of 286 million gallons of water each day and travels from as far as 45 miles through a series of underground passages. It is some 80 feet deep. The 70 tons of dissolved limestone gives the spring water its turquoise blue color.

After visiting Pilot Knob,we drove the 4 miles to Elephant Rocks SP. The elephant shaped granite boulders formed 1.5 billion years ago.
