We returned to Fort Miles today in order to tour the renewal of Battery 519 which is planned to be one of the largest coast artillery museums in the country..a work in progress. The Battery is under going extensive restoration with much done as of our visit.

The battery was completed in 1943 with 2 12" guns were emplaced and retained until 1948. Thanks to many volunteers, the Battery is almost completely restored.
The Battery tour is only open on Friday and Saturday at 11AM and 2PM at a cost of $5. Well worth it. This is the first battery in all our visits to different ones that has a very extensive restoration.
After touring the Battery we drove up to Dover AFB to visit the Air Mobility Command Museum which is off base. You take exit 91 off Hwy 1. While there we got a tour of a C-5, C-141B and C-141A. Son, Darin when he was stationed at MCGuire AFB was a load master on the C-141-B so had to get my picture inside. He, also, flew on the C-5 when he was in the reserves.
